Chicagoans seeking a direct train to Florida for the colder months need to look no further.
Amtrak on Monday announced a new temporary route called the Floridian, which will have direct trips between Chicago and Miami starting Nov. 10.
The train combines the routes of the Capitol Limited and Silver Star lines. Amtrak said it was readjusting its trains to alleviate traffic in the northeast corridor during the upcoming reconstruction of East River tunnels in New York, which were ravaged by Hurricane Sandy in 2012.
Amtrak’s Floridian route combines the routes of the Capitol Limited and Silver Star lines between Chicago and Miami.
The train will include coach seats, private rooms and a dining car, Amtrak said in its announcement.
The Floridian will operate on a similar schedule and make the current stops of the Capitol Limited (trains 29 and 30) between Chicago and Washington, D.C., and the Silver Star (trains 91 and 92) between Miami and Washington, D.C.
The Amtrak ticketing website on Monday showed $110 coach tickets from Chicago to Miami. A private room cost $734 for the 46-hour one-way trip.
Amtrak did not say how long the route may run. The train operator ran a similar route, also called the Floridian, between 1971 and 1979.
