Multiple people were shot Friday night around 10 p.m. in the Loop.
Gunshots were heard outside the Chicago Theatre at 175 N. State St., ABC7 reported.
At least two people were shot, according to the news outlet, which reported hearing gunfire right outside its State Street studios.
Ald. Brian Hopkins (2nd) posted to X about the incident, writing that hundreds of juveniles were “rioting” in the Loop and at least five were shot. He also said police officers were “attacked,” with one hospitalized.
“300 juveniles rioting in the Loop now, at least 5 victims shot, one critical with life threatening gunshot wound to torso. Multiple police officers attacked and injured with mace and stun guns, at least one PO hospitalized.”
Chicago police confirmed the shooting but not how many people were injured.
The shooting happened a few hours after the city’s annual tree lighting ceremony a few blocks away at Millennium Park.
