Bears in waiting game with opposing QB yet again, and this time it’s the Steelers’ Aaron Rodgers

It seems unlikely longtime Bears nemesis Aaron Rodgers will play Sunday in what likely would be his final game at Soldier Field, but it’s still murky. Rodgers, now the Steelers’ quarterback, suffered what ESPN reported to be “a slight break” in his non-throwing wrist in their win over the Bengals.

Bears coach Ben Johnson downplayed that being a problem Monday and said they’ll be watching the Steelers’ injury report the “same as we always do” and anticipated they’d be paying close attention to his players’ statuses as well.

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin will talk to reporters Tuesday morning, but isn’t required to clarify anything about Rodgers’ injury until after practice Wednesday.

If Rodgers is out, the Steelers would go with longtime backup Mason Rudolph. He has played in three games this season and completed 14 of 18 passes for 139 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions. They also have undrafted rookie Will Howard, a sixth-round pick, on their roster.

Johnson is used to this kind of guessing game.

The Ravens indicated throughout the two weeks leading up to their Oct. 26 game against the Bears that two-time MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson would play, then misrepresented his practice participation on Friday and ruled him out Saturday. They started Tyler Huntley in his place, and he played the best game of his career to beat the Bears 30-16.

There was uncertainty the next week against the Bengals, too, as Joe Flacco sat out with a sprained AC joint in his throwing shoulder. Flacco played through that injury and threw for 470 yards and four touchdowns in a 47-42 Bears win.

Rodgers last played in Chicago in 2022 for the Packers. He went 25-5 against the Bears during his run with Green Bay and famously yelled at the Soldier Field crowd in a 2021 game, “All my [bleeping] life, I own you. I own you. I still own you.”
