Bears left tackle Braxton Jones walked to the locker room in the third quarter after hurting his right knee against the Eagles. He was at first ruled questionable to return and soon thereafter called doubtful.
Jones was emotional as he went to the ground and was helped to the blue injury tent.
He was replaced by Theo Benedet, who played occasionally last week and in the first half Sunday to keep Jones fresh.
“To be able to be exposed to what I’m seeing out there has been huge,” Benedet said. “I feel like I’ve been able to get in a rhythm that I otherwise wouldn’t have.”
Jones dealt with a knee injury in August, right around the team he started to pull away with the Bears’ starting job. The team cut his main competition, Kiran Amegadjie and Jedrick Wills.
Ozzy Trapilo could be the team’s long-term answer at the position. He’s been practicing with the team in full for more than a week but was a healthy scratch on game day Monday. The team is being deliberate with how they bring Trapilo back from injury after he suffered a patellar tendon tear during the Bears’ playoff win against the Packers in January.
