SANTA CLARA, Calif. — After posting the best game of his young career, Bears receiver Luther Burden had to get to the locker room on a cart Sunday night.
He claimed afterward, though, that it was a function of his effort.
“I gave my all out there, bro,” he said after the game. “So I’m tired as hell.”
Even so, he walked with a limp in the locker room. ESPN reported he suffered a mild quad injury.
Burden, who missed the Packers game last week because of a sprained ankle, led the Bears with eight catches and 138 yards in the team’s 42-38 loss to the 49ers at Levi’s Stadium. His performance was needed, given that Rome Odunze remains out with a chronic foot issue and DJ Moore was slowed by an illness and finished with one catch for seven yards.
“Luther had a huge game for us,” coach Ben Johnson.
Burden fell to the ground on the Bears’ final play, an incomplete pass to Jahdae Walker. He was treated by trainers, walked across part of the field and then rode the cart toward the locker room.
He was helped off the field after the final gun.
