Bears wide receiver Keenan Allen will miss his second consecutive game after being ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Colts with a heel injury.
Coach Matt Eberflus said Allen also will not be at the game because of a personal matter. Allen suffered the injury late in training camp, but played in the season opener against the Titans and had four receptions for 29 yards on 11 targets.
But Eberflus indicated he expects Allen’s absence to be short term. He noted that Allen is doing on-field work during his recovery.
“His heel is getting better. Speeds are getting better. Cutting. Moving,” Eberflus said. “He’ll be ready when he’s ready, when his body tells him.
Elsewhere on the injury list, running back Travis Homer is out after injuring is finger in practice. Fullback Khari Blasingame (hand/knee) and reserve defensive tackle Zacch Pickens (groin) also are out.
Right guard Nate Davis is questionable with a groin injury that flared up Wednesday. Matt Pryor would replace Davis if he can’t play. But right guard Teven Jenkins, who did not practice and was limited Thursday with a deep thigh bruise, had full participation Friday and will start against the Colts.
Rome ready
Rookie receiver Rome Odunze was a full participant in practice for the first time since before the Bears’ season opener. He said the Grade 1 sprain in his right knee felt “definitely sore” after Sunday’s game in Houston.
He said he was more comfortable with the game speed in his second game but is still annoyed he missed a catch in the end zone.
“Just need to see the ball better,” he said.
