Bears safety Jonathan Owens honors wife Simone Biles with gymnastics celebration

Bears safety Jonathan Owens celebrated his fumble recovery Sunday afternoon with a gymnastics-style celebration to honor his wife Simone Biles.

Owens forced a Vikings fumble at the 1-yard line and recovered it at the 2. He posted with both arms pointed in the air, the way a gymnast would.

Biles, the greatest female gymnast in history, was in attendance. She wore a blue jacket with the word “Owens” written across the front. The Bears included her in their halftime honors; they introduced Olympic medal winners from around the state and had Biles run out the tunnel last.

Owens said after the game that the Bears talk about getting “four-point plays” — turning a touchdown into a field goal.

“It really turned into a seven-point play because it kept them out of the end zone. …” he said. “Just thinking: ‘Make a play, man.’”

Owens started his first game this season, replacing Eliah Hicks, who was starting in place of the concussed Jaquan Brisker.

Latest on the Bears
The Bears rally before falling short in overtime.
The Bears played overtime for the first time in four years and found another agonizing way to fall short Sunday in a 30-27 loss to the Vikings.
Caleb Williams stepped up when the Bears had a chance to steal a victory. His OT sack was a rookie mistake he figures to learn from. Matt Eberflus’ team showed admirable resilience in rallying from a 27-16 deficit in the final 1:56 of regulation but still looked poorly coached.
