The Bears have pulled off some spectacular wins this season, but rallying to beat the Packers 22-16 in overtime Saturday night tops them all.
They were down 10 with under six minutes to play when quarterback Caleb Williams led them to a field goal, and after recovering the onside kick, he tied the game with a six-yard touchdown pass to Jahdae Walker with 24 seconds left.
Then, in overtime, Williams ended the game on a 46-yard touchdown pass deep down the left side of the field to wide receiver DJ Moore. It was the Bears’ biggest win in years and it gave them solid footing in the playoff race and a firm grip on the NFC North at 11-4.
“It feels good,” Williams said. “I’m excited. I’m happy to be able to get that 11th win that we spoke about months ago, so just being able to be in this moment and [coach Ben Johnson] being able to trust me, couldn’t ask for anything more.”
Williams was so thrilled afterward that he took a victory lap around Soldier Field and said, “We put it out there this week that we needed the fans, that we want the fans to be proud to be Chicago Bears fans, so… I wanted to go around and give my thanks to them.”
He started 9-for-21 for 132 yards (64 passer rating), but closed by completing 10-of-13 passes for 118 yards and two touchdowns (143.6) with the game on the line.
“He came through and he always makes plays when needed,” Johnson said. “He’s clutch like that… He always keeps a level head.”
Bears wide receiver DJ Moore has a theory about his team’s late-game successes: They’re getting help from above — and also behind them.
