A 17-year-old boy has died after a motorbike crash in south-east London.
An off-duty police officer came across the scene of the accident in Main Road, Biggin Hill, just before midnight on Sunday.
Two teenagers who had been riding the bike were given first aid before paramedics arrived, but the 17-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
The second teenager was taken to hospital where his injuries are not life-threatening.
He was arrested in connection with the investigation into the crash but police have not said what for.
Detectives believe the bike was near a car at about the time of the crash and are trying to trace the driver.
The Metropolitan Police said: ‘At around 23:58hrs on Sunday, 9 June, an off-duty police officer came across a motorbike that had been involved in a collision in Main Road, Biggin Hill.
‘Despite the efforts of emergency services, one of the males, aged 17, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
‘His family have been informed and will be supported by specialist officers.
‘Detectives believe that the motorbike may have been in close proximity to a car around the time of the collision, but that car did not stop at the scene.
‘Enquires are ongoing to locate that vehicle and its occupant(s) and to establish whether it played any part in the collision.’
