British Airways staff ‘suspended over jibes at colleague’s weight’

BA said it has a ‘zero tolerance approach to bullying’

A pair of British Airways flight attendants have reportedly been suspended by the airline after a colleague learned they had mocked her weight over Whatsapp.

The jibes were made in a chat that did not include the alleged target and they were shown to her by another member of cabin crew staff, according to the Sun on Sunday.

The newspaper said the woman in question is in her early twenties and weighs around 15 stone.

She was reportedly so distressed by the messages that she became afraid of going to work.

A source described the actions to the Sun as ‘repugnant bullying’, adding: ‘The poor victim of the merciless fat jokes has been left utterly bereft.’

If the pair are found guilty of misconduct, they may be fired from their roles.

A spokesperson for British Airways said: ‘We have a zero tolerance approach to bullying and always fully investigate any allegations brought to our attention.’

The alleged incident comes a few months after two cabin crew members were sacked from BA over an ‘obscene’ racist video posted on TikTok.

Holly Walton and Lauren Bray mocked Asian passengers by putting on a caricatured Chinese accent and making offensive faces.

The clip was viewed more than a million times on the social media app.

A former colleague at the airline described their decision to film the video and post it online as ‘shocking and dumb in equal measure’.
