A British toddler had died after drowning in a private pool at a Greek holiday villa.

The unnamed tot, three, was on holiday with his family near Tsilivi, a coastal village on the island of Zakynthos.

At around 12pm on Sunday while the family was preparing lunch inside the villa, the youngster reportedly wandered off by himself.

His mum began calling out for him, with the family looking for the small child around the holiday home.

But he was found unconscious in the swimming pool by his grandfather, police confirmed to Greek news outlet Newsbomb.

The toddler was given CPR at the scene but was declared dead.

The boy, described as from Bangladesh by Greek media, was holidaying with his mother, two aunts and grandparents who had flown to the island from the UK.

No arrests have been made. An investigation is ongoing.

The Foreign Office told Metro: ‘We are providing consular support to the family of a British child who has died in Greece and are in contact with the local authorities.’
