A burglary suspect who eluded police after crashing into another vehicle in a Glendale Galleria parking structure and then carjacking another vehicle that was later found abandoned in Burbank remained at large Friday.
Los Angeles Police Department officers began pursuing the 34-year-old man, who was driving a gray Hyundai Elantra with no license plates, around 9:17 p.m. Thursday on the northbound 101 Freeway in Elysian Park, police said.
The driver led officers to the third floor of a parking structure at the Glendale Galleria, then carjacked a victim’s vehicle following a collision, according to the Glendale Police Department.
The victim pinged her cell phone, which was inside the carjacked vehicle, and informed police that it was on the 300 block of North Pass Avenue in Burbank, a Glendale police sergeant said.
Glendale and Burbank police officers went to that location and recovered the carjacked vehicle and the cell phone, which were returned to the victim.
The suspect was not located, but Los Angeles police know his identity, an officer said.
Video from the scene showed more than a dozen police officers investigating in the Galleria parking structure.
