SAN FRANCISCO — The suspect in a scheme to smuggling methamphetamine and Viagra into the Bay Area was able to avoid a prison sentence, years after a co-defendant was given a multi-year term, court records show.
Anthony Cristian Valdovinos was sentenced to time he has already served in jail. His co-defendant, Mark Ogo, was also sentenced to time served in 2023, but a third man, William Riedy, was given a 54-month sentence in 2022, court records show.
Prosecutors say the three conspired to smuggle 26 pounds of methamphetamine into the Bay Area. Riedy snuck the drugs into the United States and passed them off to Ogo and Valdovinos, but not before making one more quick trip to Mexico and back to get Viagra for Ogo. The duo then took them from Calexico to the San Mateo area, where they retrieved the methamphetamine from a tire, according to court records.
Valdovinos’ lawyer wrote in court filings that he is on an “outstanding trajectory” and that his “personal history and substance abuse shaped his adulthood and ultimately, his conduct in this case.”
“He fully accepts responsibility for his wrongdoing and is remorseful for violating the law,” a defense sentencing memo says.
