Car crashes off motorway bridge injuring two women

Two women have been taken to hospital after a car crashed off a bridge onto the M8 near Glasgow Airport. Police closed the motorway westbound at junction 27, near Paisley, after the crash was reported at about 20:40, but it reopened by midnight. Renfrew Road, which goes over the M8, was also closed due to barrier damage at the bridge between the Abbotsinch Retail Park roundabout and Arkleston Road roundabout. It has also reopened.

Two women have been taken to hospital after a car crashed through a motorway barrier and off a bridge onto the road below near Glasgow Airport.

The M8 was closed at 8.40pm on Thursday after a vehicle went through the barrier on Renfrew Road, which goes over the motorway heading westbound.

Footage shared online shows the smashed car with debris all around as people peer into the passenger and driver’s windows.

The M8 reopened at midnight on Thursday, with Renfrew Road opening a short time after.

Police Scotland said: ‘The M8 westbound at Junction 27, White Cart Viaduct in Paisley, has reopened following a one-car crash reported around 8.40pm on Thursday, 16 July, 2026.

‘Renfrew Road between Abbotsinch Retail Park roundabout and Arkleston Road roundabout has also reopened.
