Grammy-winning rapper Lil Durk was acquitted by a federal jury Friday in a murder-for-hire case held in Los Angeles.
The Chicago rapper, whose given name is Durk Banks, was found not guilty of charges that included conspiracy, stalking resulting in death and two murder charges, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Prosecutors alleged Banks had ordered a hit on rapper Tyquian Bowman in retaliation for the 2020 murder of rapper King Von, a friend of Banks. The gunmen instead fatally shot Bowman’s relative, Saviay’a Robinson, near the Beverly Center in Los Angeles in 2022.
Two other defendants in the case, Deandre Wilson and David Lindsey, were found guilty on multiple stalking charges. They were also acquitted of the murder-for-hire charges.
Prosecutors had argued that Banks wanted revenge after King Von, whose given name is Dayvon Daquan Bennett, was shot and killed in a shooting during a fight outside of an Atlanta hookah lounge.
Attorneys suggested Banks had used money and influence to carry out the alleged hit.
Defense attorneys countered, saying witnesses who testified in the case were unreliable and had ulterior motives.
Banks remained in custody after the not guilty verdict because he faces a separate federal racketeering trial that is scheduled for Oct. 5.
