Christians attended Good Friday services in LA and around the world

Archbishop José H. Gomez presided over the Good Friday Mass on Friday at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in Los Angeles.

Christians around the world mark the endurance and suffering of Jesus before death on the cross on Good Friday.

The liturgy at the cathedral’s noon service was from the Gospel of John and known as the Lord’s Passion. The Lord’s Passion, always read on Good Friday, was also proclaimed at the cathedral’s 3 p.m. service and was planned for the 7 p.m. service.

During the solemn service, the archbishop and priests made a procession with the cross down the center aisle of the cathedral from the altar to the vestibule for those attending to venerate the cross.

The archbishop celebrates the Holy Saturday Vigil Mass, a bilingual English and Spanish service that will be live streamed, at 8 p.m. April 19 at the cathedral.
