Colorado driver charged with manslaughter in fatal New Jersey crash that killed 4 teens

The Colorado driver in a wrong-way crash on the New Jersey Turnpike that killed four teenagers over the weekend was charged Tuesday in their deaths, according to court records.

Christopher Neff, 41, faces four counts of aggravated manslaughter, four counts of vehicular homicide and multiple weapons charges for a gun and ammunition found in his car, according to New Jersey court records.

Neff is accused of driving a Dodge pickup truck the wrong direction down the highway in Carneys Point Township, crashing head-on into the teenagers’ car. A semitrailer then hit the Mazda from behind, according to the Carneys Point Fire Department.

The Sunday crash killed four people inside the Mazda: 19-year-old Yaakov Kilberg of Lakewood, New Jersey; 18-year-old Aharon Lebovits of Lakewood, New Jersey; 18-year-old Chaim Grossman of Fallsburg, New York; and 18-year-old Shlomo Cohen of Lakewood, New Jersey.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Neff remained hospitalized from injuries he sustained in the crash, New Jersey State Police spokesperson Sgt. Jeffrey Lebron said.

Additional charges may be added as the investigation continues, Lebron said.

No additional information about the crash was available Wednesday. Neff’s next court date had not yet been scheduled.
