Colorado weather: Denver may see light snowfall as temperatures plunge this weekend

Metro Denver will experience a post-Thanksgiving shift in weather, with temperatures plummeting and light snowfall anticipated along the Interstate 25 corridor late Friday through the weekend.

But it won’t amount to much, said Russell Danielson, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Boulder. He said accumulations will range from only a trace of snow to about an inch.

The Denver area will see a chance of rain showers before 11 p.m. Friday, followed by a slight chance of rain and snow between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m. Saturday, then snow likely after 2 a.m., according to the NWS.

Temperatures are expected to reach 62 degrees in Denver on Friday, but temperatures will drop to a low of around 21 degrees Friday night, according to the NWS office.

Saturday brings a 50% chance of snow, mainly before 8 a.m. It will be mostly sunny with a high near 32 degrees. North-northeast winds will blow at six to 10 mph, with gusts up to 16 mph. Less than a half-inch of new snow is expected, according to the NWS.

Temperatures are expected to fall to a low of 14 degrees overnight Saturday.

On Sunday, there is a 20% chance of snow after 11 a.m. It will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 30 degrees.

Sunday night, a 40% chance of snow, mainly before 11 p.m., is forecast as temperatures fall to a low of 15 degrees.

The NWS office in Boulder also shared on social media that snow and blowing snow are expected for the mountains Friday evening through early Saturday morning.

Officials advised that the safest travel window Friday is during daylight hours, or travelers can wait until late Saturday morning. A second round of mountain snow is forecast for Sunday.
