Gusty winds across the state are expected to reach 75 miles per hour and a high wind warning is in effect for the Front Range Foothills, Urban Corridor and Palmer Divide, according to the National Weather Service.
A high wind warning is in effect in the Front Range Foothills until 6 a.m. Tuesday, Urban Corridor until midnight tonight, and Palmer Divide until 12 p.m. today. Wind gusts are expected to reach 55 miles per hour across the plains.
The NWS recommends that residents in high wind warning areas secure outdoor objects, avoid windows, remain in the lower levels of their homes, watch for falling debris and tree limbs and use caution while driving, especially in high profile vehicles.
Fort Collins, Boulder and the western suburbs of Denver will see west winds up to 45 miles per hour with gusts up to 65 miles per hour until midnight tonight.
Driving may be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Blown down trees and power lines, with brief power outages, are possible. All lanes of Interstate 25 were closed this morning just north of 53rd Avenue and between 58th Avenue and Interstate 70 in Adams County because the wind blew down a large overhead sign. The blown down sign was reported around 4:36 a.m. and the road opened at 5:40 a.m.
Wind and high wind gusts will persist throughout Denver until Thursday. Denver will be windy and mostly sunny today with a high of 59 degrees and wind up to 30 miles per hour with gusts up to 45 miles per hour. This evening will be mostly cloudy with a low of 39 degrees. Winds will decrease to up to 18 miles per hour after midnight, but gusts could still reach 45 miles per hour.
Tuesday will reach a high of 61 degrees and there will be a 10% chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Winds will increase to 30 miles per hour that afternoon with gusts as high as 44 miles per hour. Tuesday night will be clear and windy with gusts up to 49 miles per hour and a low of 31 degrees.
Wednesday will be sunny and breezy with a high of 59 degrees and gusts up to 24 miles per hour. There is a 10% chance of precipitation that night, with a slight chance of rain and snow showers before 1 a.m. and rain showers until 3 a.m. Temperatures will dip to 37 degrees and thunder is possible.
The chance of precipitation increases to 50% for the Denver area on Thursday but winds are expected to die down, according to NWS forecasters.

Elbert, central and portions of east Douglas County, including Castle Rock, are under a high wind warning until noon today. Winds will get up to 40 miles per hour with gusts as high as 75 miles per hour expected.
The northern and southern Front Range Foothills will see winds up to 50 miles per hour with gusts up to 75 miles per hour and are under a high wind warning until 6 a.m. Tuesday.
A high wind warning is in effect in Teller County and the Rampart Range, including Pikes Peak, until noon today. Gusts may reach up to 85 miles per hour.
The Sangre de Cristo and Wet Mountains are under a high wind warning until noon today. Winds may reach 55 miles per hour with gusts up to 85 miles per hour. A high wind warning is also in effect for the Wet Mountain Valley until noon today with winds up to 40 miles per hour and gusts that may reach 60 miles per hour.
A high wind warning is in effect for the western portion of El Paso County, especially along and west of I-25, until noon today. Winds may reach 50 miles per hour with gusts up to 95 miles per hour. The Cheyenne Mountain Air Force Station has already recorded winds up to 92 miles per hour, according to the NWS in Pueblo.
Areas near Canon City and eastern Fremont County are under a high wind warning until noon today with wind gusts up to 75 miles per hour.
