The city is opening 12 cooling centers from Tuesday through Thursday in anticipation of hot and humid weather that could reach above 90 degrees in Chicago.
Tuesday’s high temperature is forecast at 86 degrees. Wednesday is forecast to be the hottest day this week, with a high near 92 degrees and a heat index reaching 98 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
Temperatures are expected to remain near 90 degrees Thursday, with an 80% chance of rain, the weather service said.
The following six community service centers will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday:
- Auburn Gresham Center, 1140 W. 79th St.
- Garfield Center, 10 S. Kedzie Ave.
- Martin Luther King Center, 4314 S. Cottage Grove
- North Area Center, 845 W. Wilson Ave.
- South Chicago Center, 8650 S. Commercial Ave.
- Trina Divila Center, 4312 W. North Ave.
The following six senior centers will also be open as cooling centers from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday:
- Central West Senior Center, 2102 W. Ogden Ave.
- Northeast Senior Center, 2019 W. Lawrence Ave.
- Northwest Senior Center, 3160 N. Milwaukee Ave.
- Renaissance Court (open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.), 78 E. Washington St.
- Southeast Senior Center, 1767 E. 79th St.
- Southwest Senior Center, 6117 S. Kedzie Ave.
