Families were enjoying a ‘beautiful afternoon’ in the park when they spotted a couple appearing to have sex under a blanket in full view of children.
A video shows lawn chairs and picnic blankets dotted around New York City’s Battery Park on Sunday.
People jogged along the promenade, children ran around, and a boy skated barefoot on the grass.
As the camera pans around, the outline of limbs could be seen writing around beneath a black blanket slap bang in the middle of it all.
Perhaps the so-called ‘blanket couple’ thought a thin layer of fabric could conceal their tussle.
But the sheer number of onlookers stopping to gawk and film with hands covering their mouths in shock suggests their rendezvous did not go unnoticed.
A young girl looking directly at them as her mother leads her away by the arm definitely spotted them.
In fact, their shenanigans have now been watched more than 50,000,000 times in the last three days thanks to a viral TikTok video posted by @girlsorwomen.
The clip, captioned ‘trying to enjoy a beautiful Sunday afternoon in NYC’, has nearly 50,000 comments and more than 382,000 likes.

TikTok user GirlSensei said: ‘Lmaooo it’s the fact EVERYBODY is staring at them. They probably thought they was just blending right on in.’
Chanler said: ‘What was the blanket supposed to do is the real question.’
