Couple charged with series of historical sexual offences against two children in Northern Ireland

A COUPLE have been arrested and charged in connection with historical sexual offences against two children.

Police arrested the husband and wife at their home in Co Down yesterday.

The pair were taken to the Antrim Custody suite to be questioned.

They both were interviewed separately at different times throughout the day.

The couple have since been released on bail with strict conditions related to the offences charged.

Each party must stay at separate addresses and have no contact.

They will appear before Newry Magistrates Court on April 28.

Cops are continuing investigations and said all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Detectives from the Police Service of Northern Ireland arrested and charged a 61-year-old man for non-recent sexual offences.

“A 57-year-old woman was also arrested and charged at the time for aiding and abetting additional offences.

“Both are due to appear before Newry Magistrates Court on 24 April.

“As is usual procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.”
