‘Critical incident’ declared as cops swarm Hainault station and arrest man

COPS have swarmed a Tube station following a “major incident” – forcing it to close.

Hainault Station, east London, has been locked down as officers carry out an urgent investigation nearby.

A police helicopter appears to have been deployed and is circling the area in Redbridge, near Essex.

It is not yet clear what has happened.

One witness told LBC: “There was loud shouting outside my road on Laing Close. Not sure what happened there.”

Shadow Health Secretary Wes Streeting said: “A critical incident has been declared in Hainault.

“There are station and road closures in place. The Police, Ambulance Service and Fire Brigade are responding.

“One male detained.

“I would urge people not to speculate until details are confirmed or post footage on social media.”

Videos from the scene show heaps of police cars and vans parked up at the locked and bolted underground entrance.

Confused commuters stand around as they try to find another way of getting to work.

TFL are urging people to re-plan their journey and asking them to avoid the area.

A spokesperson for London’s transport network said: “Hainault Station is closed due to a police investigation in the area.”
