NORTHRIDGE — Angie Ned is the new head coach of the Cal State Northridge women’s basketball team, it was announced Monday by CSUN Director of Athletics Shawn Chin-Farrell.
Ned helped lead California Baptist University to its first ever NCAA Division I women’s basketball tournament last year as the team’s associate head coach and recruiting coordinator. She coached at CBU for 10 years.
“I am humbled, excited, and sincerely grateful for the opportunity to serve as the next head women’s basketball coach at CSUN,” Ned said in a press release. “I want to thank Shawn Chin-Farrell and Sonia Hahn for this amazing opportunity. I look forward to helping our student athletes grow and developing into their best versions of themselves. We are going to do the work and be committed to the process as we compete in the Big West Conference!”
Ned returns to the Big West Conference, where she played as a standout at UC Irvine. At UCI she made the All-Big West team three times and was a two-time Defensive Player of the Year.
After college, Ned played professionally in Holland and Portugal before joining the coaching ranks. This will be her first head coaching position at the college level. She was previously the varsity girls basketball coach at Perris High School for three years.
“Coach Ned has been a Lancer for over a decade and has been a big part of our success in women’s basketball. She is ready for this next challenge in her career, and we are excited that she has earned this opportunity,” CBU head coach Jarrod Olson said in a press release.

Ned replaces Carlene Mitchell, who went 19-70 over three seasons. The Matadors have not made the NCAA Tournament since 2018.
Last year’s leading scorer for the Matadors, former Mater Dei High standout Kayanna Spriggs, is set to return for her senior season. Alondra Lizama, who played at Alemany, and Jordan Hayden, an Agoura High graduate, will both be entering their sophomore campaigns.
“I can’t wait to provide opportunities for our student athletes to excel and enjoy their experience as a Matador,” Ned said.
