Cubs-Brewers continue historic first-inning offensive showings in NLDS Game 5

MILWAUKEE — The first inning has determined the series in the National League Division Series between the Cubs and the Brewers.

Brewers catcher William Contreras’ first-inning homer continued the high-octane first innings displayed throughout this series. The Cubs and Brewers combined to score 22 first-inning runs in their series, according to MLB.com.

The combined 22 runs are four more than the first inning of any other series in postseason history.

The Brewers grabbed control of the series in Games 1 and 2 when they scored nine runs combined. The Cubs scored six runs combined over the first two games.

But when the series shifted to Wrigley Field, the Cubs became the aggressors, scoring four runs in Game 3 and three in Game 4.
