A daughter’s request for sweets led her parents to win £524,000 in the EuroMillions.

Valdet Bujupi, 44, said he bought the lucky dip ticket because his daughter was insistent on picking up some sweets on their journey home in Barrow, Cumbria.

He said he caved in after she asked for the third time but picked up the ticket and matched five main numbers and a lucky star – 27, 30, 31, 41, 43 and 05 and 08.

After finding out he has won, he immediately rang his wife Abbey, 40, who was cleaning when she got the call.

She said: ‘I was cleaning the bathroom and was not impressed at having to take off my rubber gloves to answer the phone.

As well as the planned trip to the US, Valdet said he is planning to send money to his mum in Kosovo to ‘make her life a little bit easier’.

But ‘one of the craziest moments’ was getting to tell their 12-year-old son they had won.

Valdet told the BBC: ‘He thought it was a joke and it was only once I showed him the win on the lottery app that he was willing to believe us.’

Andy Carter, senior winners’ advisor at The National Lottery, said: ‘They’ve clearly got some amazing and memorable moments ahead and I hope they especially love taking a big bite of the Big Apple.’

It comes after one lucky ticketholder from the UK scooped £25,701,358 after matching all the numbers in the EuroMillions draw.

The win is the fourth time this year someone from the UK has won the top EuroMillions prize.

It is also the second consecutive Friday that a UK ticketholder has taken home the winning jackpot.

One lucky person won £26 million in last Friday’s draw, another player took home £65 million on Valentine’s Day, and a third scooped a jackpot of £83 million in January.
