LOS ANGELES — The Ohtani family has grown to a foursome.
Shohei Ohtani and his wife, Mamiko, announced the birth of their second child overnight Saturday via Instagram.
“We are again overjoyed to experience this wonderful day in our lives together,” the Ohtanis posted. “Thank you for being born safely. We would also like to express our gratitude to everyone who has supported us throughout this journey.”
The post included a photo of a baby’s feet poking out from a blanket. But it did not mention the gender of their second baby or the baby’s name.
The Ohtanis’ first child, a daughter, was born in April 2025. Shohei Ohtani missed two games for her birth. The Dodgers were on the road at the time and placed Ohtani on paternity leave, calling up a player from Triple-A to replace him.
This time, Ohtani was away from the team and did not play Friday against the Baltimore Orioles. But the Dodgers did not take him off the active roster and manager Dave Roberts said he was “hoping” Ohtani would rejoin the team and be available to play Saturday night.
