Dog accidently shoots owner in the back after jumping on a shotgun

A Pennsylvanian man was taken to hospital after his dog accidentally shot him in the back in a freak accident.
The 53-year-old man, who has not been named, said he was cleaning his shotgun and had left it on his bed when his dog jumped up, according to local police.
The animal had unintentionally shot his owner after jumping on the bed.
Police were called to the man’s home at around 11.13pm on Tuesday after officers received reports of a shooting in the 300 block of State Street in Shillington, Pennsylvania, according to local reports.
Officers from the Shillington Police Department found the man with a wound on his back, and he was rushed to the hospital to undergo an initial surgery to treat his injury.
Corporal Michael Schoone at the Shillington Police Department said an investigation is underway to determine how the man was shot in the back, local news outlet WFMZ reported.

He said police are investigating the incident to understand whether ‘the dog’s paw may have gotten caught inside the trigger’ or if there was a manufacturing issue with the gun.
A spent shell casing was found inside the shotgun, prompting police officers to remind people about gun safety.
Mr Schoone urged people about the ‘cardinal rules’ of gun safety, telling licensed gun owners to ‘keep it in a safe direction, finger off the trigger’.
He added that this unusual incident was the ‘perfect storm’.
‘It was just the right place at the right time, or the wrong time,’ he said.
The man and his son were the only people inside the home and were in separate rooms when the incident happened, ABC News reported.
Two other dogs were also in the house at the time of the shooting.
The state of the man’s condition remains unknown, according to ABC News.
The shooting appears to be accidental, but police continue their investigations into the incident.
