The Eisenhower Expressway was closed in both directions in Westchester Thursday morning for an Illinois State Police investigation into an apparently suspicious fatal incident, police said.
It’s unclear exactly what happened but the Cook County medical examiner’s office confirmed one person has died and WGN-9 reported that a bomb squad has responded to the scene.
State police said the “incident” happened about 10:05 a.m. in the westbound lanes of Interstate 290 near Mannheim Road.
The following lanes were closed, according to police: eastbound and westbound lanes on I-290; Mannheim Road to I-290; Mannheim Road over I-290; Eastbound I-88 to eastbound I-290.
Motorists were urged to avoid the area and take alternate routes. Extended closures were expected.
No other information was available.
