SUNNYVALE — El Camino Health this week broke ground on a new facility aimed at providing patients with rehabilitation services.
The center will be located near the Sunnyvale-Mountain View border on El Camino Real. The four-story building will feature 52 rooms and provide services including acute adult inpatient care for individuals recovering from strokes, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries and other severe conditions.
There also will be clinical services, including physical and occupational therapies, speech pathology services, and specialized programs dedicated to neurological, stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury and amputation rehabilitation.
Construction is slated to begin this month, with a project cost of around $120 million. The new facility will start accepting patients in spring 2027.
The completed hospital also will consist of amenities for patients including a gym, courtyard, gardens and transitional living apartment where patients can prepare to transition back home.
Dan Woods, CEO of El Camino Health, said the rehabilitation hospital will allow the hospital to expand its presence in the Silicon Valley.
“This new facility is not just about providing rehabilitation services while patients are in treatment — it’s about supporting them beyond their stay,” Woods said. “With dedicated transitional services, we aim to help patients regain independence and successfully return to their everyday lives.”
In the past few years, El Camino has rolled out multiple new facilities or updated existing ones. Last April, the hospital unveiled a new Los Gatos office for its youth mental health clinic. In 2021, it launched construction on a wide-ranging revamp of women’s health and maternity facilities at its Mountain View campus.
