The scam involved a communication claiming to be from the “fraud department” of the woman’s bank, sheriff’s Sgt. Adam Schermerhorn reported Thursday. The woman was persuaded to give money to a supposed bank representative who visited her home.
On Wednesday, detectives arrested a suspect who attempted to contact the victim for another $25,000, Schermerhorn said.
Hao Canh Diep, 36, of Rosemead was booked into the Marin County Jail on suspicion of grand theft and embezzlement against an elderly person. He is being held without a bail amount, according to jail records.
