Family pay heartbreaking tribute to ‘kind & loving’ mum, 51, after she was found dead in flat as cops charge charge man

A MOTHER who police suspect was murdered has been named as Clare Burns, 51, of north Manchester.

Clare was found dead at a flat on Queens Road, Harpurhey, in the early hours of Monday, and a man has been charged with her murder.

Her family has been informed and is being supported by officers from Greater Manchester Police.

Leonard Lee Stewart, 55, of Queens Road, was arrested at the scene and later charged, GMP said.

The force has voluntarily referred itself to the  Independent Office of Police Conduct because it had previously had joint contact with Clare and Stewart.

Stewart remains in custody ahead of his appearance at Manchester City Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

The family released a touching tribute to Clare that read: “Clare was a loving mother, auntie, sister and daughter.

“She was funny, outgoing and a very independent person. She was also kind, generous and friendly to anyone she met.

“Clare would always light up the room she entered, and she was a brilliant friend to many.”

Forensics officers were seen combing the Queens Road property for evidence on Tuesday and officers knocked on doors for information, according to the Manchester Evening News.

A bunch of flowers and a teddy bear sat amongst written tributes placed at the scene.

One heartbreaking note read: “Rest in peace mum, we will miss you.”

Another bore the message: “Rest in peace my darling daughter. Love you forever and always, love mum xxxxx.”
