The fatal stabbings of two men experiencing homelessness in Aurora appear to be connected, police determined Monday.
The stabbings happened about half a mile apart near East Colfax Avenue in Aurora early Sunday morning. One man was found injured at about 1:45 a.m. around the 1500 block of Moline Street. He later died from his wounds. A second man was found with apparent stab wounds at about 6:45 a.m. near a bus stop on Peoria Street south of East Colfax Avenue. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The victims have not been publicly identified.
Because of the timeline, proximity and similarity of injuries, police believe the attacks are related. A preliminary investigation indicated both victims were experiencing homelessness, according to police, though it’s unclear if they were targeted because of their housing status.
Aurora police’s homeless abatement and relocation team is working with detectives in its major crimes homicide unit to investigate, conduct outreach and offer services to people in the area.
Police have not released any information about any suspects and no arrests have been made. Police are reviewing surveillance footage and looking for more. Police ask anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867. Tipsters can remain anonymous and may receive a reward of up to $2,000.
