‘Fatalities reported’ after helicopter crashes into New York’s Hudson River

A helicopter carrying has crashed in New York’s Hudson River with at least four people on board.

The aircraft’s landing skids are still visible sticking out of the water after it came down beside the Holland Tunnel around 3.17pm local time today.

Fatalities have been reported, but it is not yet clear how many people were injured or killed.

Rescuers have pulled them from the water in unknown condition, local media reports.

The helicopter appears to have crashed closer to the New Jersey side of the river, opposite Manhattan.

Police said: ‘Due to a helicopter crash in the Hudson River, in the vicinity of the West Side Highway and Spring Street, expect emergency vehicles and traffic delays in the surrounding areas.’
