Father and son charged with kidnap after ‘teen girl forced into car’

Two men will appear in court after being arrested on suspicion of attempted kidnap of a teenage girl in Birmingham.

Mohammed Ali, 49, and his son Luqman Ali, 20, will appear in custody at the city’s Magistrate court on Monday.

CCTV footage taken from Ladypool Road appears to show a woman being bundled into a car at around 4pm on Saturday.

Another woman steps in before a man with a walking stick keeps a car door open.

The teenage girl, of British Asian heritage, managed to flee the vehicle before seeking refuge in a nearby shop on the busy high street, police said.

She is being supported by specialist officers.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: ‘We’ve charged two men with kidnap after a teenage girl was forced into a car on Ladypool Road in Birmingham.

‘Mohammed Ali, aged 49, and his son Luqman Ali, 20, have been remanded in custody to appear before city magistrates today.

‘Mohammed Ali is also accused of false imprisonment and assault.’

‘The suspects were quickly arrested at the scene.

‘The teenage girl is now being spoken to by specialist officers.

‘We are aware of misinformation circulating about the incident, and so we are confirming that the suspects and victim are of British Asian heritage.’

Police have asked any witnesses to get in touch on 101.
