People will be able to admire several notable planes up close at Long Beach Airport’s annual Festival of Flight.
Set to take place Oct. 25, the free event is expected to attract about 15,000 fans of aviation, who will be able to check out more than two dozen aircraft on static display.
According to a press release, the lineup of aircraft is expected to include the C-53 “D-Day Doll,” which participated in the D-Day invasion; a KC-46 Pegasus, an air-to-air military refueling aircraft; and the VX-31 Search and Rescue “Dust Devils,” a U.S. Navy helicopter and its crew who help downed aircraft, lost hikers or missing persons on land and sea.
“Walking the airfield and seeing these planes up close is an experience like no other,” said Long Beach Mayor Rex Richardson in a statement.
The festival includes children’s activities, food and beer trucks, and musical performances.
Festival of Flight was launched in 2013 in celebration of the airport’s 90th anniversary with the aim of raising awareness about California’s oldest municipally owned airport, which marked its 100th anniversary in 2023.
