Find your green thumb at the 2025 LA County Fair

Tucked away from the carnival rides and bustle of the Los Angeles County Fair midway is The Farm, where all things agriculture come together to educate and delight fairgoers.

Plant parents and horticulture newbies can find plant-centered classes and purchase organically grown chili peppers, herbs, strawberries, tomatoes and more to add to their own gardens.

Available plant varieties can change from day to day, and prices start at $5. The Farm also offers free seeds available on most days.

Most of the plants available at the fair can’t be found at a local garden center, according to Bill Holland, a “farm ambassador.”

“We grow all kinds of unique things like the Australian Finger Lime,” Holland said on a recent afternoon at the fairgrounds in Pomona. “It’s the caviar of limes because of the way it pops out like caviar.”

There are also over 40 different kinds of mint grown on the farm, so visitors can expect to find variations such as cotton candy and hazelnut latte. Visitors may also get free cuttings to propagate at home.

According to Holland, everything at the farm is organic and the plant sales keep operations going.

“We needed tools for our volunteers and staff,” Holland said, “so we decided to sell our plants as we grow a lot of specialty plants.”

In addition to plant sales, The Farm offers garden talks and the Los Angeles Beekeepers Association runs a bee booth to educate fairgoers about the helpful pollinators and their role in gardens. Honey is also for sale.

The UC Master Gardeners program also provides classes, which change daily. Topics range from firescaping, or wildfire-safe landscaping, plant-grafting, cuttings and propagation, growing plants in containers, tropical plants and more.
