Former Blackhawks defenseman Duncan Keith to be inducted into Hockey Hall of Fame

Duncan Keith, the defensive guru behind the Blackhawks‘ three recent Stanley Cup championships, is now a first-ballot Hall of Famer.

Keith will be one of eight 2025 inductees into the Hockey Hall of Fame, the hall’s selection committee announced Tuesday. The induction ceremony is scheduled for Nov. 10 in Toronto.

It’s the second consecutive year a Hawks legend will be inducted, following Jeremy Roenick’s long-awaited call last year. And Keith will become the second core player from the Hawks’ 2010s dynasty era to be inducted, following Marian Hossa in 2020.

“I was lucky to play on some really good teams with some great players,” Keith said in a statement. “It’s been a journey with many ups and downs, and I want to thank the people who helped me get to this point in my life.”

In addition to the three Cups, Keith won two Norris Trophies (in 2010 and 2014) and one Conn Smythe Trophy (in 2015). The Winnipeg native recorded 625 points in 1,192 appearances for the Hawks over 16 seasons — ranking second in franchise history in games played, behind only Stan Mikita — before finishing his career with a brief Oilers stint in 2021-22.

The other 2025 player inductees are former Bruins star Zdeno Chara, former Sharks star Joe Thornton, women’s hockey legends Jennifer Botterill and Brianna Decker and former Sabres, Canucks and Maple Leafs star Alexander Mogilny, a fan favorite finally chosen after 16 years of eligibility. Longtime Boston University hockey coach Jack Parker and former Canadian national women’s team coach Daniele Sauvageau will be inducted as builders.

From the Hawks’ recent dynasty, Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews will certainly join Keith and Hossa in the Hall of Fame once they retire and become eligible.
