Former Saratoga mayor Mary-Lynne Bernald was appointed on March 19 to the West Valley-Mission Community College District Board of Trustees.
Bernald’s appointment to represent Trustee Area 5–which includes parts of Los Gatos, Saratoga and Monte Sereno–comes after longtime trustee Jack Lucas, who was re-elected in 2022, died in late January. The board of trustees voted in February to appoint someone to Lucas’s seat until the general election in November instead of holding a special election.
Bernald’s career in public service includes time served as a councilmember, vice mayor and mayor for the city of Saratoga.
“Her distinguished record of public service and deep commitment to our community align perfectly with our values and strategic objectives,” chancellor Bradley Davis said in a statement. “I have no doubt that she will prove to be a significant contributor to our mission.”
Bernald will receive a monthly $400 stipend and health benefits as a trustee.
