A fundraiser has been launched for a man who was fatally shot in West Lawn in the early morning hours of the Fourth of July.
The GoFundMe for 52-year-old Esteban Herrera will help cover his funeral expenses.
Herrera was fatally shot around 2 a.m. in the 3400 block of West 62nd Place in what his family called “a senseless act of gun violence.” He was struck in the back and was pronounced dead at the scene, Chicago police said.
The fundraiser was started by a relative of Herrera’s, Krystal Morales. She described Herrera as “full of life, funny, outgoing and always able to bring a smile to anyone’s face.”
Morales said Herrera’s death has left the family “heartbroken and unprepared for the costs of laying him to rest.”
No arrests have been made.
