CARSON — There was no questioning the Galaxy’s work and effort Saturday night.
Unfortunately for the Galaxy, there were no answers in terms of a payoff in goals or even just a goal.
The Galaxy (5-7-7, 22 points) scuffed and slogged their way to a scoreless draw against visiting FC Dallas in front of 18,122 at Dignity Health Sports Park.
In the Galaxy’s four games since MLS resumed, they’ve yet to win, moving to 0-2-2. The draw extends the Galaxy winless streak to five consecutive games, dating back to the final game, May 23, before the break.
The Galaxy emerged out of the World Cup break a different team with Mauricio Cuevas sold to Santos Laguna, Gabriel Pec moved to Cruzeiro and Matheus Nascimento’s loan deal expiring.
Now, in the midst of an important transfer window, the Galaxy are also dealing with a rash of injuries with Miki Yamane (hip), Erik Thommy (foot) and Joao Klauss (foot) all out. Thommy is out for six to eight weeks, Klauss could return later this month and Yamane’s timetable has yet to be determined..
The Galaxy recorded consecutive losses (against LAFC and St. Louis CITY SC), before picking up a hard-earned point last Saturday against the San Jose Earthquakes.
“We were in really good form before the break, going on the road getting points in Atlanta (2-1, May 9), Seattle (2-0, May 16) and then tying against Houston (1-1, May 23) at home,” defender John Nelson said Thursday. “It was an awkward break to go away that long from each other on the field, but at the end of the day, there’s no excuses.
“I know we have a lot of moving parts. We’re getting rid of players, maybe bringing in new players, so at the end of the day, we don’t want to make an excuse. Hopefully we see some new faces soon and we’re ready to get them into the locker room and get to work.”
So far, the Galaxy have brought in Robert Taylor (free agent) and forward Kyōgo Furuhashi, who began the game on the bench. He arrived in town Thursday and went through his first training session Friday.
Furuhashi, who recently played at Birmingham City, entered in the 67th minute, replacing Taylor. His first touch came in the 68th minute as he dribbled in the attacking third, shooting, before FC Dallas goalkeeper Jonathan Sirois scooped up the rebound.
He might not be the biggest target, but his runs and speed were an instant impact as the Galaxy tried to find the breakthrough goal. The Galaxy finished with eight shots on goal.
The first half was quiet on both ends. The Galaxy had its first bit of sustained pressure late in the first half. First a Marco Reus free kick from 22 yards out, was on target, but Sirois came up with a spectacular two-hand save. Later, a recycled shot from John Nelson was deflected, but again Sirois came up with the stop.
The Galaxy will be back in action Aug. 15 on the road against the Houston Dynamo.
