Three people have been arrested after a gang held down a man and forced him to watch as they raped his 18-year-old fiancée in Rome.

Minutes before they were surrounded, the couple had parked in a quiet corner of Tor Tre Teste, a park in the eastern part of the capital.

They were naked before the incident took place on October 25, according to the Italian broadcaster TG La7.

Police said the attackers broke the car window, dragged the 24-year-old man from the vehicle and forced the woman out as she tried to cover herself with an item of clothing.

Two of the attackers restrained the man as his fiancée was dragged a short distance away, the man told police.

As the group sexually assaulted his fiancée, the man cried out for help and pleaded with them to stop, but was unable to break free.

All three perpetrators fled after the attack, although police said five assailants could have possibly been involved.

The Italian couple, who were terrified and confused according to authorities, contacted the police.

Three Moroccan men have since been arrested on charges of gang rape and robbery.

Two of these men were traced by officers from Rome’s Flying Squad unit and detained only days after the attack, and the third man was picked up in Verona a few days ago.

The arrests were kept quiet while they continued gathering evidence.

Fingerprints lifted from the shattered car window match the men who have been arrested, according to investigators.

Officers initially considered the incident a robbery, as the couple’s belongings were taken and the attackers are believed to be drug dealers.

The investigation is ongoing – two other people are being sought.

This attack is not the first for Tor Tre Teste park, as a 60-year-old Italian woman was raped and robbed of her phone while out walking her dog in August.
