A 6-year-old girl died Tuesday after she was struck by a school bus in suburban Frankfort, police said.
Officers at about 3:24 p.m. responded to the 500 block of Aberdeen Road and found the child unresponsive at the location after being hit by the bus, police said in a news release.
Witnesses and first responders at the scene attempted to revive the girl before she was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, where she later died, police said.
Investigators indicated that the bus contained several passengers at the time of the collision, but no other injuries were reported.
“This tragic incident has had a profound impact on those involved, their families, and our community. We extend our deepest sympathies to everyone affected by this heartbreaking event,” Frankfort police said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim, their family, loved ones, and all those impacted as they navigate this difficult time.”
This investigation remains ongoing, police said.
