Tears welled in the eyes of Hawi Feysa as she was nearing the end.
The culmination of the hard work was setting in with each step. As she eyed the finish line, you could see the determination on her face. Once she crossed the finish line, she collapsed and knelt on the floor, with her arms closed together and her head buried in her arms.
She won the 2025 Chicago Marathon in the women’s division with an unofficial time of 2:14:56, which was her personal best.
Sunday’s race was her U.S. debut.
“I felt pretty confident,” Feysa said. “The race conditions were good, but my coach gave me a lot of preparation heading into the race.
Scaroni’s comeback
Suzannah Scaroni redeemed herself.
After a flat tire prevented Scaroni from performing how she felt she could’ve in last year’s marathon, Scaroni faced no bad luck as she won the 2025 Chicago Marathon in the women’s wheelchair division with an unofficial time of 1:38:12 — the course record is one hour and 38 minutes.
“I felt strong, slept well and wanted to push myself,” she said at victory lane.
The competition was steep as she faced three former Chicago Marathon winners.
