A man who was extradited from Indiana is back in Chicago facing charges that he fatally beat a 76-year-old man at a South Side bus stop and carjacked a SUV at a nearby McDonald’s before fleeing the state.
Malcolm Wilson, 32, was charged with first-degree murder, aggravated vehicular hijacking and receiving, possessing, or selling a stolen vehicle, Chicago police said.
The attack unfolded about 9:15 p.m. Sept. 8 at a bus stop in the 9500 block of South Halsted Street in the Washington Heights neighborhood when Wilson allegedly pushed Joe Lee Bradley, 76, to the ground, according to a police report.
A witness who had video of the incident told police the two were in an argument when it turned physical and Wilson kicked Bradley in his head and chest while he was on the ground, according to the report.
Wilson then walked down the street to a McDonald’s at 9560 S. Halsted St., where a woman had gone inside to order food, the report said. She left her two grandchildren, 14 and 3, inside an SUV that was running, police said.
After telling the kids he would shoot them if they didn’t get out of the SUV, he sped away in the 2024 Kia Telluride, according to the report.
The children and the SUV owner were not injured, and the suspect was arrested in Indiana.
Court information for Wilson, of Homewood, wasn’t immediately available.
