This image captures a key moment of conflict during protests Oct. 4 in Brighton Park after a U.S. Border Patrol agent shot a woman that authorities later said chased federal immigration enforcement agents during an operation in the area. It illustrates the escalating tensions between community members and federal agents, showing officers detaining a protester during a skirmish in which they also deployed tear gas and shot pepper balls. It highlights the community’s resistance and the contentious issues surrounding immigration enforcement and civil liberties.
How did you get the photo?
As the skirmish escalated, I focused on physical confrontations between federal agents and protesters. It’s important to document those moments. As officers were attempting to move the crowd back, I saw this protester resisting the order, and soon law enforcement surrounded them. I tried to find angles around the agents to get a clear shot of the individual being detained.
