Husband of woman who he says fell overboard in the Bahamas arrested

Lynette Hooker and Brian Hooker, married Michigan boating couple Lynette, 55, of Onsted, plunged into the waters of the Abaco Islands in the Bahamas on Saturday while boating with her husband, Brian Hooker, 58, from Hope Town to Elbow Cay. A joint search-and-rescue operation by Bahamian and US authorities was immediately launched, with the US Coast Guard later joining the effort by air. By Tuesday, the teams announced the mission had become a recovery operation, Hope Town Volunteer Fire and Rescue Lead Richard Cook told the outlet. While the couple appeared to live a joyous life on the water through their social media videos, Lynette?s daughter, Karli Aylesworth, has since called for a full investigation into the events leading up to her mother?s fall. 'There have been prior issues brought to my attention, which may be important for any thorough investigation,' Aylesworth, whose biological father is not Brian, told Fox News Digital.

The husband of a woman who fell overboard from a dinghy in the Bahamas has been arrested days after her disappearance.

Lynette Hooker, 55, has been missing at sea in the Bahamas after she and her husband, Brian Hooker, 59, had been returning to their yacht.

After she fell in while holding the boat key, the boat engine shut off, leading her husband to ‘paddle back’ to land and call the police.

Just after 7 pm yesterday evening, Hooker was arrested in Marsh Harbour, Abaco Islands, for questioning.

His attorney Terrel A Butler said he denies any wrongdoing, adding: ‘He has been cooperating with the relevant authorities as part of an ongoing investigation.’

An American woman is missing in the Bahamas after she reportedly went overboard while traveling on a dinghy and strong currents carried her out to sea, according to police. The woman and her husband had departed Hope Town on the Abaco Islands for Elbow Cay around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, according to the Royal Bahamas Police Force. They were en route to their yacht -- dubbed the "Soulmate" -- when, her husband said, the woman fell overboard due to poor weather, Hope Town Volunteer Fire & Rescue Assistant Chief Stafford Patterson said. "Strong currents subsequently carried her away, and he lost sight of her," the Royal Bahamas Police Force said in a press release. Patterson identified the missing woman as 55-year-old Lynette Hooker, of Onsted, Michigan. She was holding the boat key when she went overboard, causing the 8-foot hard-bottom dinghy's engine to shut off, police noted. Her husband, 58-year-old Brian Hooker, subsequently paddled the boat to a marina, arriving at around 4 a.m. Sunday, according to Patterson. He reported his wife overboard to an individual who then alerted police, the Royal Bahamas Police Force said.

Earlier this week, Hooker posted on Facebook: ‘I am heartbroken over the recent boat accident in unpredictable seas and high winds that caused my beloved Lynette to fall from our small dinghy near Elbow Cay in the Bahamas.

‘Despite desperate attempts to reach her, the winds and currents drove us further apart. We continue to search for her, and that is my sole focus.’

Hooker also thanked the Bahamian search and rescue teams, who are working to search for his wife.

Karli Aylesworth, Lynette’s daughter, issued a statement yesterday saying that she had been told little information about her mum’s disappearance.

‘If this truly was an accident, I can understand and live with it. However, there needs to be an intensive review of the facts and circumstances of this tragic incident before that can be determined.’

A massive search has been underway for days now, including both American and Bahamian authorities, but no trace of Lynette has been found.

Richard Cook, the fire team lead of Hope Town Volunteer Fire and Rescue, said the search for Lynette is now a ‘recovery effort’.

On Wednesday, the US Coast Guard announced it had opened a criminal investigation into Lynette’s disappearance.
