I-57 crash in Calumet Park leaves 3 dead, 5 injured, crash victims were struck by a speeding vehicle

Three people standing outside the scene of a three-vehicle crash early Wednesday on Interstate 57 in Calumet Park were struck and killed by a fourth vehicle that hit them as it sped past leaving five others injured and shutting down all of the expressway’s northbound lanes for nearly eight hours.

Just after midnight, state troopers responded to the scene of the three-vehicle crash just south of 120th Street when the fourth vehicle hit three people outside one of the vehicles involved in the initial crash, according to the Illinois State Police.

The three were dead at the scene, according to the police, who said five others were taken to hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.

The vehicle that hit the deceased victims stayed on the scene but there was no word on citations or charges.

All northbound lanes of I-57 reopened around 7:50 a.m.
