Jason Goff announced Friday on his podcast with The Ringer that he won’t be returning to The Score to replace Danny Parkins on the afternoon show. Goff was the station’s first choice, but negotiations fell apart.
“The Score will always hold a special place in my heart, and I wish everyone there the best,” Goff told the Sun-Times. “I still have a lot of people there that I consider family.”
The Score had no comment.
Goff said on his podcast, ‘‘The Full Go,” that he had been preparing to join Matt Spiegel on the afternoon show, but The Score parent company Audacy wanted Goff to give up the podcast, which he refused to do. He said there were other points of contention as well.
Goff began at The Score in 2000 and worked his way from producer to host. Under different leadership, The Score removed Goff from the afternoon show in March 2018 amid a lineup revamp.
He since has hosted Bulls pregame and postgame shows on NBC Sports Chicago, and he’ll continue in that role at the Chicago Sports Network when it launches Oct. 1. Goff also will continue hosting ‘‘The Full Go.”
The Score has had a tumultuous couple of weeks, sparked by an on-air incident during afternoon transition between midday host Dan Bernstein and afternoon guest host Barstool Eddie. Bernstein took offense to Eddie calling him by his last name, and Barstool owner Dave Portnoy took exception on social media.
