The president opened up about the death of his first wife, Neilia Biden, and their 1-year-old daughter, Naomi, who died in a car crash in Delaware on December 18, 1972.

“When you lose the love of your life, and you lose your 13-month-old daughter, which I again, it gives me the chills even to say it to you, and I hate bringing it up,” Stern told Joe Biden during Friday’s interview.

The SiriusXM host then asks the president, “You described you were suicidal. At that point, you thought about it.”

Biden emotionally recalled how, during those dark moments, he thought about drowning his sorrows with a bottle of scotch.

“What I said was, you don’t have to be nuts to commit suicide,” the president said.

“I don’t drink, that’s not a virtue. I just never drank. And, I used to sit there and think to myself, I’m just gonna take out a bottle of scotch.

“We always had liquor in the house, and I was gonna just drink it and get drunk, and I can never bring myself to do it.”

Biden then described how someone doesn’t have to be crazy to consider suicide.

“If you’ve been to the top of the mountain, and you think it’s never gonna be there again, and, just a brief moment, I thought maybe I just go to the Delaware Memorial Bridge and jump,” the president shockingly revealed.

Biden shared how the thought of leaving his two boys, Hunter and Beau, alone saved him.
